Christenings and Baptisms

Christenings at St Mary and St Nicolas

If you are looking at this page, you may be thinking about a Christening (Baptism) for yourself or a child.  If so, we’re delighted that you’ve made it this far and we look forward to welcoming you.  Anyone is welcome to be baptised in our church and we aim to make it a welcoming, rewarding and memorable experience for you and those who may come along to support you.

A big part of the richness of Baptism includes entry into the Church community. The Church is the only community that truly straddles all generations and demographics. It is a place where toddlers can rub shoulders with the elderly and everyone in-between. With modern society moving further and further away from everyday interaction with one another, church can be the very place to find companionship and community, all united in one endeavour: to find purpose, inspiration and guidance through God. This requires a commitment to the church body. Indeed Baptism is actually the first step in that commitment. By getting yourself or your child baptised, you are making promises to become a regular member of the Church. Baptisms mostly take place on Sundays at 12.30pm, but if you would like it in the main service please do just ask.

We do not charge for Christenings (Baptisms). All we ask is that you leave a donation befitting the occasion.
